Vice President, Design

James Coppack is a Vice President of Design for GID’s Development Group and is based in GID’s New York office. He has over 11 years of experience, 7 years in New York City real estate, and has specialized in the engineering design and development of mixed-use projects involving multifamily residential, office, retail, and hotel uses. Mr. Coppack is responsible for engineering design direction, planning, technical review, and aspects of the construction process.

Mr. Coppack has been working in the New York City real estate community since 2007, working on several high profile projects within that time. His early career included working for an Architectural Engineering firm in Pennsylvania after graduating from the University of Leeds and Pennsylvania State University Architectural Engineering Program with a Masters in Architectural Engineering.

Upon graduating from the University of Leeds, Mr. Coppack moved to Pennsylvania to begin his professional career where he joined Cornerstone Consulting Engineers.  Mr. Coppack had a primary focus on retail and hospitality development work, leading a team of architects and engineers, and reporting directly to Clients and Development Managers.  Mr. Coppack returned to the UK in 2007, and joined Buro Happold Engineering.  During his time in the UK Mr. Coppack also returned to University part time to complete his second Masters of Science (MSc) in Engineering Project Management.   He subsequently relocated to their New York City Office in 2009.  While at Buro Happold, Mr. Coppack worked on a range of projects, both domestically and internationally, covering commercial, cultural and educational sectors, as well as many different scales and levels of complexity.  At the time of his departure from Buro Happold, Mr Coppack was responsible for the leadership of the New York City Commercial Residential Engineering Study, working on over 7 million square feet of development with multiple Developers and High Profile Architects.

When the opportunity was presented to join GID Development Group Mr. Coppack stepped into the development realm with the goals of applying his New York specific engineering design knowledge and continuing to learn the broader development process.

Mr. Coppack is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Building (CIOB), and also a Certified Project Management Institute Professional (PMI).  Mr. Coppack is a member of the New York City Chapter of both the CIOB and PMI.
